TIAGO RODRIGUES

Tiago’s three paintings are the start of a series in which he will focus on the anonymous messages left on bathroom doors and other public places. Tiago has been photographically documenting these discovered slogans for some time. The handwriting and words of the anonymous messengers are reproduced on heavy steel canvases which are sprayed, and then broken down using various chemical processes. The light-hearted and sometimes poignant nature of the messages contrast with the industrial heaviness of the materials used. Tiago’s works deal with notions of shared or public intimacy as well as questions of who the speaker might be and to whom the messages are directed. They function as some kind of public analogue message board.
