KAMYAR BINESHTARIGH

Bineshtarigh's paintings developed from observing veiled women in prayer, the arrangement of a group creates a sense of a new unified formation in which the integrated singular, or the individual, disappears. Some other group formations that can be linked to this kind of organisation are military parades, and in nature penguin colonies.

The video work in which the movement and behaviour of a penguin colony is compared to the movement of pilgrims attending Hajj developed from the paintings. In both situations the organised movement of the individuals demonstrate a sense of solidarity. The small painting that was displayed inside video booth shows a single brush mark, bringing the viewer back to considering the role of the individual.
